Artist Statement

The ordinary has always fascinated me. A chair waiting in afternoon light. A pair of shoes. Spoons resting on a tablecloth. An overlooked street corner. These seemingly insignificant moments often carry profound truths. They speak of belonging, perspective, compassion, balance, diversity, and our shared humanity. They remind me that there is much in people, objects, and stories that deserve attention.

Working exclusively with fabric and thread, I transform my own photographs into textile paintings. I cut, layer, and assemble textiles as a painter applies pigment. The textures, translucency, and histories embedded within the cloth become part of the image itself. Because fabric is something we all know intimately, against our skin, wrapped around us, comforting us, it brings an immediate human presence to the work.

When viewed from a distance, my pieces read as graphic images. Up close, they reveal thousands of individual decisions. Layers of cloth, stitched lines, woven textures, and subtle shifts of color create visual experiences. Like people, they reveal more of themselves the closer you get.

Making this work is my way of holding onto hope. It is how I honor the beauty I encounter each day and offer it back to the world. If a viewer leaves with a renewed sense of wonder, a greater appreciation for another perspective, or simply a moment of peace, then the work has fulfilled its purpose.
